ENERGY TECHNOLOGY COMPETITION
Next Energy Competition: January 20, 2010
Awards Dinner: Radisson Hotel, Largo, MD
General information: The purpose of the Energy Competition is to facilitate and exploration of science and technology from a hands-on perspective. We encourage participants to compete at the NSBE Fall Regional Conference Science Fair. Additionally, displays will be on exhibit at the Patriots Youth Summit at Bowie, MD:
This is an in-school program for High School students. Eight high schools will compete and students will be assisted by their teacher, coach or volunteer from an agency or corporation with expert knowledge.
Program: The students will research one of the fields in Energy in which they will write a research paper of at least five pages and prepare a brochure, webpage and a display regarding what they have learned. The research topics will be: Biomass; Water (hydropower); Geothermal; Wind; Solar; Nuclear, Electricity and Natural Gas.
Schools: The 2009-2010 competition will be among the Prince George’s High School – so get a team together.
Awards Program:
Students will be required to submit their abstract by October 30, 2009 and present their display at the dinner.
The Patriots’ Energy Competition will consist of a panel of Energy Engineering Professionals that will judge the students’ papers and projects at a dinner with community residents, parents and elected officials on January 20, 2010 at the Radisson Hotel, Largo, MD. A winner of this competition will be selected at this event. This project, thus, builds research and business skills as well as technology skills.
Prizes: Each member of the winning team of the Patriots Energy Competition will receive a $250 American Express Gift Certificate.
Business and government support: Several companies will be recruited to serve as instructors, mentors and technical advisors. This project will significantly impact the community by bringing attention to the environment in their community and help students to look at careers in nuclear energy fields. New business participants are welcome.
Fee: You must be an active member of the Patro-Tech Science Club.
