MATHMOVESU COMPETITION
MathMovesU Competition: May 13, 2010
Raytheon, 5700 Rivertech Court, Riverdale, MD
General information: The Patriots and Raytheon have partnered to host a MathMovesU Day. It is Raytheon’s belief that tomorrow’s engineers and technologists need to be excited by and interested in math and science. With that in mind, together we have developed the MathMovesU Competition which provides the opportunity for students to excel in the areas of math and technology.
Program: Middle school students will form a 3-member team and compete in a jeopardy-style game among seven teams. This fast-paced game will feature categories that will contain math related questions on fractions, percentages, subtraction and algebra which will encourage students to broaden their knowledge in math and teaming skills. Additionally, students and parents will have an opportunity to go online and to see how MathMovesU is an ideal tool to help with math course. They will also be given a chance to learn about career opportunities and internships from Raytheon. Fun, food, and competition are a great combination for an exciting way to help you with your math.
Schools: The 2009-2010 competition will be among the seven middle school teams – so get a team registered early; first come, first served.
Prizes: There will be 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners and all contestants will receive a certificate and a t-shirt for their participation. The 1st place winners will receive an iPOD. All prizes are compliments of sponsorship by Raytheon.
Business and government support: Raytheon has developed the MathMovesU initiative www.mathmovesu.com which is a virtual space that educates and entertains middle schoolers through games and activities that showcase the math behind students’ favorite pastimes.
Fee: You must be an active member of the Patro-Tech Science Club.
