General information: The Bio-Medical Competition will provide students the opportunity to complete a study on medical science careers.
Program: Five teams of two middle and/or high school students will research a specific science career listed below. From there, they will then write a research paper with a maximum of three pages, in addition to preparing a brochure, a web page, and a poster board display. At the competition, after the judges score each group, the team’s knowledge will be tested while playing a Kahoot game based on a set of questions previously provided to each team. Scoring of the Kahoot game will be incorporated in the overall competition scoring to determine the winners.
Each team will be able to choose from one of the following topics for research:
Here are the best science careers:
- Pediatrics
- Medical General Practitioner
- Obstetrician (OB/GYN)
- Psychiatry
- Surgeon
Schools: The virtual competition will be among middle and high school students throughout the United States.
Awards Program: Students are required to submit their abstract by February 19, 2022. A panel of medical science industry professionals will review the students’ abstract paper and will create 30 questions for the students to study for the Kahoot game. The competition will consist of a panel of medical science professionals that will judge the students’ research papers and projects at a dinner with community residents, parents, and elected officials on April 19, 2022, at the Crowne Plaza in Greenbelt, Maryland. The winners of this competition will be announced at this event.
